Quality Control Technician

Department: Quality Control  |  Reports to: Quality Control Supervisor or Manager  |  Location: Woodbine, IA

Job Summary

The Quality Control Technician supports product quality and compliance by reviewing batch records and lot files, inspecting materials and returned goods, investigating nonconformances, and completing product reviews and reports in accordance with cGMP, GDP, and SOP requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review batch records and lot files for accuracy and completion.
  • Compile and summarize product data to complete and submit product reviews.
  • Inspect returned goods and investigate nonconforming issues.
  • Receive and inspect raw materials, packaging, containers, and closures.
  • Assist QA leadership in disposition of non-compliant inventory (raw materials and finished goods).
  • Assist Plant Quality Manager with defect issue resolution and reporting.
  • Support QC leadership with determination of product specifications.
  • Write observation reports, investigation reports, and SOPs.
  • Follow and help enforce all cGMP, GDP, and SOP requirements.
  • Match purchase orders with bills of lading and maintain accurate records.
  • Investigate customer complaints and document findings.
  • Use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) efficiently.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience in a quality role; degree preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and documentation discipline.
  • Ability to review large data sets, identify trends, draw conclusions, and take action.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including technical writing.
  • Professional interaction with employees, customers, suppliers, and management.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret regulations, compliance standards, and procedure manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence and present information to managers and employees.

Mathematical Skills

Proficient with basic math (whole numbers, fractions, decimals) and calculating rate, ratio, percent, and proportions; able to operate a 10-key calculator.

Reasoning Ability

Apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions and handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates/Licenses

None required.

Physical Demands

Frequently stand, walk, reach, talk, hear, and smell; occasionally sit, climb, and kneel. Regularly lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. Specific vision requirements include distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Primarily in production areas with periodic exposure to high heat (grills/kilns), airborne particles (e.g., grinding), and odors from herbs and essential oils; noise level typically medium.
